Before we get going with this topic, we need to know the distinction between art and design. But again we start of with this hair splitting distinction; we need to know them separately.
What is art?
The answer of this simple question is so complex that it has enamored artists day after day, but the conclusion has yet to come. Because to circumscribed it in a worldly accepted definition frame is rather Herculean task.
According to Plato it is an imitation of an imitation. If definition goes like this we can say monkey is an artist as he has the capability and quality to copy and imitate man. But we can never take monkey as an artist.
Though Aristotle attributed it a human inclination for imitation, but he gave it a little modification saying art is an imitation of life.
Joyce says: “Art is the human disposition of sensible or intelligible matter for an aesthetic end”
The greatest modern poet and fervent critic T.S. Eliot says: “Art is the escape from personality.”
Few artists say: “Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.”
Since then to till today lots of argument and counter argument have arisen time to time with no perfect and final definition for it.
Yet the most accepted definition has been taken for it is “the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others”
Now let me say something on design to make the matter understandable to you.
What is design?
Design is the act of drawing and working out the form of something.
Now have a look on the basic difference between art and design:
1. Good art has the capability to inspire one, on the other hand good design motivates.
2. Good art gives interpretation as it communicates people in different ways. On the other hand good design is understood as it motivates people to communicate in the same way with a same message.
3. Art is the reflection of taste; design is the representation of one’s opinion.
4. Finally art is a talent and design is a skill.
5. Same art sends different message to different people but same design sends same message to everybody.
What is graphic design?
Graphic design is designing graphic with a skilful combination of texts and pictures. We can clearly say graphic design is a genre of design.
Why graphic design is not an art?
From the above differentiation between art and design, we can say art is different from design. As graphic design is a visual representation and skillful combination of texts and pictures and functions for a specific task to communicate viewers with a specific message with no matter of how much aesthetic and beautiful it is; we can say graphic design is not an art.
There has been a sharp controversy among the Graphic Designer in Auckland, but most of them have now accepted that graphic design is not an art.

If you ask what custom web design is; I would answer that all web design service providers, especially those who provide business web design services, offer custom website design service. When you download or buy a ready made template and start using it, then it is not custom web design.
Ideally, you should contact a web design company and let them know what you want. If you want to develop a website for your business, you have to look for a company that offers business web design services. Business website design is different from other types of designs. It is recommended to hire a designer who is expert in creating business websites.
Basically all business websites should be customized based on the specific business requirements. First of all, you have to have your requirements in place – ask yourself what you exactly want to achieve with this website, whether you need leads OR you are just creating the website to have an online presence OR you need a better branding through this portal. Once your requirements and objectives are set, you should look for a web design company.
The web design company will analyze your requirements, ask you relevant questions to know your objectives better and then prepare a basic layout for the website. This is the first stage of website design; you will receive an image file which helps you understand how the finished product will look like. You can ask the designer to make changes if you want. Once the final layout is ready, the image file is passed on to the coding section where experienced designers and coders convert the image/PSD to HTML/CSS format.
In custom web design, you have to specify your requirements properly. Otherwise the designer will not be able to come up with the right kind of solution for your business. For example, if you want to provide customer support through your website, a live chat system or ticketing system should be integrated with the website. Unless you go for custom web designing you cannot get such functionalities.
Those who run business websites usually need round the clock support. If you are planning to sell products online, you cannot afford any down time. So you have to work with a web design company that can offer you long term support whenever you need. Work with the best business web design provider and enjoy long term benefits.

Web design is the process of designing websites — a collection of online content including documents and applications that reside on a web server/servers.
As a whole, the process of web design includes conceptualization, planning, post-production, research, advertising as well as media control that is applied to the pages within the site by the designer or group of designers with a specific purpose. The site itself can be divided into its main page, also known as the home page, which cites the main objective as well as highlights of the site’s daily updates; which also contains hyperlinks that functions to direct viewers to a designated page within the site’s domain.
Initial website designs normally need small tweaks and changes after they go live, but major updates and re-designs may be undertaken periodically.
Changes to websites almost always provoke a backlash from its regular users. The reason for this is primarily that change is disruptive to the user: for example, the link that the user previously learned was always in the lower left corner is now “missing”, and the user must search the page to discover its new location. The user is disoriented, frustrated, slowed down, and needs time to learn and adapt to the new arrangement. On websites with users who spend significant amounts of time each day using, like Facebook or Wikipedia, users normally respond to even moderate changes with noisy protests and empty threats to leave the website.
Within a few weeks or months, however, most users have adapted to the changes and no longer object to them. For example, the signature feature of Facebook, a news feed, drew millions of complaints when it first appeared, but users now say that it is an important and highly desirable feature.
Major websites may try to minimize this with phased rollouts of changes, testing the new design with a small number of randomly selected users, describing the importance of the upcoming changes in advance, and offering users the option of keeping the old design until they have acclimated to the new one. However, the primary cure for complaints is simply to wait.
